How to play teen patti (3 patti)

The objective

Each player receives three face-down cards and a blind position. You can look at your cards, bet blind, or look at them and bet seen. When someone calls, everyone left in the hand shows their cards, and the strongest legal hand wins the pot.

Hand rankings

• Set — three cards of the same rank, for example three jacks. The highest set wins.
• Straight flush — three consecutive cards of the same suit, such as 7♥ 8♥ 9♥.
• Colour — three cards of the same suit in any order.
• Straight — three consecutive cards of mixed suits.
• Pair — two cards of the same rank.
• High card — nothing matches, so the highest card decides.
• Trail — three cards of the same suit, and the weakest rank of all.

Blind and seen play

• Blind — you bet without looking at your cards. The reward is up to twice the blind amount.
• Seen — you look at your cards before betting. The reward is up to the blind amount, but the information helps you decide.

The betting round

1. Every player antes the same amount to begin.
2. The first live player sets the blind, and the action moves clockwise.
3. You can call, fold, raise or — once you have seen your cards — show.
4. In a side-show, the two players compare cards privately; the loser pays the side-show amount and the pot continues.

Sideshows and showdown

A sideshow is a private comparison between two players, and the loser pays the sideshow amount. A show is a public comparison — if a player shows a weak hand, all remaining players get an option to fold and take the pot without showing.

Beginner tips for teen patti

• Play the blind position only with hands you would be happy to lose.
• A pair is the most common winning hand in small pots — do not overvalue a high card.
• Watch the betting, not just your cards; a single raise usually means a real hand.
• Start at the lowest boot on the table and raise your limits only when the maths works for you.
